September 2019 Friday Nighter
It’s Nor’wester weekend, and we are a week away from the September Friday Nighter on the 13th. Debbie Sjodin is the rallymaster for this event, which is named “Are You Protected”? The tongue-in-cheek title is referring, of course, to section 3.1.3 in the General Instructions, PROTECTION. Debbie said that they picked a bunch of fun roads that just happen to have some opportunities to use the PROTECTION order of precedence, so they decided to make that the theme of the event. We are all hoping the everyone will have a thorough understanding of the concept by the end of the event. The roads will be entertaining. We’re going North where we have explored a good number of roads in the past. The finish is at Brava Pizza and Pasta, 120 Glen Ave #2954, in Snohomish, (360) 862-0900.
Registration for this novice-oriented event opens at 6:45 PM at the Eastgate Park & Ride Parking lot in Bellevue (14200 SE Eastgate Way). The drivers meeting is at 7:10 and first car out will be 7:31. The entry fee is $20. Don’t forget that we’re running the “bring a new team and your entry is free” special. Come on out and join us for a good time. Bring your friends!
July 2019 Friday Nighter Results
FOOTZ and PSRC combined forces for this entertaining and challenging rally. The course stayed between May Valley and Summit Landsburg, ultimately Finishing in Maple Valley. A few competitors suffered a bit of a meltdown on the rally, with several teams scoring maximum leg penalties (300). One of the SOP cars wrote “Tilt, Tilt, Tilt” on their scorecard.
The hard traps of the rally involved recognizing that school bus stop ahead graphics had red octagons on them and two walking people that satisfied the CROSS note. To complicate matters, there was an instruction that tried to use the signs used by the note, which were not executable because the note took precedence for use of the sign. That is definitely in the advanced course. All in all, the burns were relatively light, so failure to catch all the nuances was not too painful for most. The off-course excursions were another matter, but mostly self inflicted. The hardest traps for a rallymaster to control are the ones that competitors invent for themselves. We try really hard to keep that from happening. Thanks to the workers who helped make this possible: Mike Daily for putting the course together, Charles Agenbach for running pace with Mike; Mike Workman, Scott Margerum and Jeff Delong for working checkpoint 1 and 4; Dave Treen and Kelly Smith for working Checkpoint 2 and 3; and Vasco DePinna and Kevin Mullins who ran sweep. Most of these folks also ran the checkout, as did Ryan McLean, which is an important part of organizing a rally.
Thank you all for attending. It was gratifying to see so many folks enjoying one of our rallies. Don’t forget, we are running a bring a new rally team, get free entry promotion. Bring your friends and run for free! We are taking August off, so the next rally is September 13th, with ORCA putting on the rally. More details to follow on that. See you in September!
July Friday Nighter, 7/12/19
The next rally in the series is the July Friday Nighter, “Medium Spicy,” a joint effort between FOOTZ and PSRC. The rallymaster is Mike Daily. Mike has designed an interesting course that wanders around the Hobart area before arriving at Farrelli’s Pizza in Maple Valley. https://farrellispizza.com/locations/farrellis-maple-valley-wa/ We ran the checkout last weekend and had a blast. There are a few traps that are relatively simple, yet challenging. Nobody got lost on the checkout. The course was assembled in a way different from those that have used the area in the past and it was interesting and enjoyable. This rally has supplemental rules, and here they are:
