September 2018 Friday Nighter 9/14/18

September 9, 2018 By Kelly Smith Leave a Comment

This coming Friday, September 14, NWRC will present the last rally of the Summer, “Seven Minutes after Sunset.”  The Rallymaster will be Kelly Smith.  We ran the checkout last week and found the course entertaining, with good roads, a few easy traps and a good pizza at the finish.  It was the first time since April that I had to use the headlights all rally long.  Rallying in the dark is less scenic, and adds to the challenge.  Everyone on the checkout seemed to enjoy the course.  You should come on out and enjoy it too!  The rally ends at Brava’s Pizza and Pasta in Snohomish, WA.  https://www.bravaspizza.com

Registration for this novice oriented event opens at 6:45 PM at the Eastgate Park & Ride Parking lot in Bellevue (14200 SE Eastgate Way). The drivers meeting is at 7:10 and first car out will be 7:31. Car Zero is out at 7:30, 7 minutes after sunset….  The entry fee is $20. Don’t forget that we’re running the “bring a new team and your entry is free” special.  Come on out and join us for a good time, and bring your friends!

Those of you who missed this rally missed a really fun event.  This was Don Gibson’s best version of Butt Simple and it worked well.  It actually had a few traps, which was surprising but also pretty straight-forward.  The course wound back and forth from Lake Francis to Hobart, offering plenty of turns and stops and blinkers to play with. The legs were all about the same length (or seemed like it) and the checkpoints were is nice safe locations.  Don’s instructions also included some times to instructions which may have been helpful for those who got zeros.  It certainly made the route more interesting.  Unfortunately, as you can see by the finishers (everyone who started finished), the turnout was the weakest of the season.  Those who attended had a great time.

If you like rallying, I encourage you to beg, challenge or blackmail your friends to come join us and enjoy a nice drive in the country.  If the attendance continues to drop off, it will likely affect the club’s ability and/or willingness to put on rallies.

Thanks to Don Gibson, who did a masterful job of rallymastering and to the crews who worked the rally and made this fun night possible.

August Friday Nighter, 8-10-18

This Friday, ORCA presents Butt Simple 2.  The rallymaster is Don Gibson.  This rally will feature alpine instructions with mileages to each instruction.  The mileages will help you find the location of each instruction and should make the rally easier overall.  In addition there will be no traps.  Don wrote a couple of these a few years ago and they were very fun.  The rally is running south, and will finish at Farrelli’s Pizza in Maple Valley. July 2018 Friday Nighter Results

Thanks to ORCA for putting on a great event.  Steve was up to his usual tricks, including a trap for “S AT STOP” without MBCU that EVERYONE fell for.  The elk were out in North Bend, including a huge bull watching his harem.  Mount Si looked spectacular.  We visited Snoqualmie, Carnation and Ames Lake, eventually winding out way to the finish in Sammamish.  I didn’t feel like the route was particularly twisty, until I realized my arm were sore after the rally from turning the wheel!  That is a good sore!  Congratulations to the winners, and especially car 7 who, in spite of several off course excursions, persevered and found all three checkpoints.

It was a good time, and we are sorry if you missed it.
