Garmina Shrugs, the gimmick style GPS rally, scheduled for Sunday, July 24th has been cancelled. The organizers discovered some logistical issues that could not be resolved before the event. We’re heading for the Summer Solstice on Monday, June 20. This celestial event has been used as an excuse to put on any number of rallies in the past. This year, we’ll just have the July Friday Nighter, but it will be worthy of it’s predecessors because the rallymaster is Jack Heppes. Jack wrote 9 Sno-Git Monte Carlo Rallies, and they were all great drivers events and a load of fun. Jack knows all of the fun roads in Snohomish County, and will include as many as he can fit in for the Friday Nighter. This is going to be good!
Registration for this novice oriented event opens at 6:45 PM at the Eastgate Park & Ride Parking lot in Bellevue (14200 SE Eastgate Way). The drivers meeting is at 7:10 and first car out will be 7:31. The entry fee is $20. The “bring a new team and your entry is free” special continues, so invite some friends and enjoy free entry. The rally runs North, farther North than June’s, and ends at Brava Pizza and Pasta, 120 Glen Ave in Snohomish.

We had a nice weekend, starting with the checkout of the June Friday Nighter, while many of our crew headed for Kennewick for the start of No Alibi. The checkout went well, and the course is really fun. Following the lead of other rallymasters this year, we kept the rally trap free, so it is an easy run with time keeping being the major task at hand. Drivers will have a good time. Navigators have been spared the task of counting telephone poles.

Get your taxes done by Saturday (they aren’t due until the 18th this year!) so that you can run the Raindrop Rally on Sunday. Rainier Auto Sports Club has been putting on the Raindrop rally for longer than I can remember. The rally is always trap free and features nice twisty roads that make it a fun drive. One thing the folks at Rainier like is a good drive, so come on out and check out this one.
This years event starts at the Cottontree Convention Center, 2300 Market St. in Mt. Vernon, WA. This years event will be 5-6 hours long, and will also end in Mt. Vernon. Registration is available on-line: http://www.rainierautosports.com/scripts/registration.php Registration for the day of the event will likely open around 9:00 AM with first car out at 10:01 AM. The entry fee is $40.
It’s a great way to spend a Sunday, and the weather is supposed to be great!
