Raindrop Rally, Sunday, April 19th

April 12, 2015 By Kelly Smith Leave a Comment

Next Sunday, April 19th, Rainier Auto Sports Club presents the Raindrop Rally, a leisurely paced touring TSD event with fine driving roads, minimum traffic and wonderful scenery. The rally is geared toward the novice entrant with no traps and mileages for every instruction but precise timekeeping will still be required to score well. Awards will be given for the following classes: Unlimited, Equipped, SOP, Novice, and Vintage. The rally is about 5 hours and 140 miles long on all-paved roads suitable for any automobile.  Rainier has been putting this rally on for so long, we’ve all stopped counting.  It has a history of good weather, in spite of the name, and is always fun.  Check-in and late registration open at 8:30 AM at Kit Carson Restaurant, 107 SW Interstate Ave. Chehalis, WA 98532 (Exit 76 off I-5).  There will be a novice meeting at 9:00 AM; a drivers meeting at 9:30 AM and first car goes out at 10:01 AM.  Preregistration is available on RASC’s Website:  http://www.rainierautosports.com/events/2015/raindrop/

Come on out and join us.  You’ll have a great time!

April 2015 Friday Nighter

April 5, 2015 By Kelly Smith Leave a Comment

The April Friday Nighter is this coming Friday, April 10th. The rallymaster for this event is Curt Thompson. Curt is a cool guy who has been rallying for quite a while. He’s built his own rally computers but just as often runs in the Masters class, having won the SOP championship a few years ago. He likes fun events, and that is what he has in store for us this month. The rally start is at the Eastgate Park and Ride Parking lot in Bellevue (14200 SE Eastgate Way). Registration opens at 6:45 with first car out at 7:31. The entry fee is $20. Don’t forget that we’re running the “bring a new team and your entry is free” special. The rally finishes at Mod Pizza, 22833 NE 8th St in Sammamish, WA. They have great pizza! Come on out and join us for a good time, and bring your friends!

Details of our promotion:

What we want you to do:
Bring a team of first-timers to a Friday Nighter and help guide them through the process. Assist them with details like finding and completing a registration form. Show them official time and where to put their car number. Explain things like the starting order, the outcone, and the odometer check. Describe how they will interact with checkpoints. Cover the generic information that would be part of a Novice Talk. At the finish, answer their questions and help them complete their scorecard.

How it works:
Both teams (the mentors and the first-timers) need to come to the registration vehicle at the same time. The first-timers will register (using the form you helped them complete) and they’ll pay the normal $20 entry fee. Then the mentoring team registers, receiving the next (consecutive) car number and has their entry fee waived.

Limitations:
The first-timer team must be truly new to the sport. If driver or navigator has done this before, they are not first-timers. For the mentoring team, both driver and navigator need to have rallied at least once each. You don’t need to be experts, just enthusiastic. If you are first-timers one month, you can be mentors the next month. There is no limit to how many times a mentoring team can talk advantage of this offer – just keep drawing new people into TSD rally.

March 2015 Friday Nighter

March 17, 2015 By krmullins Leave a Comment

It’s daylight saving time again, and the advent of a new TSD Rally season. Friday, March 13th, marks the first rally of the season, and we’re going south. Registration for this novice oriented event opens at 6:45 PM at the Eastgate Park and Ride Parking lot, 14200 SE Eastgate Way, in Bellevue. First car out will be 7:31.

The rally is about 2 hours long and ends at Athens Pizza, 959 E Main St in Auburn, WA. We measured the rally last weekend and checked it out this weekend. I enjoyed the course thoroughly! The course is very fun with a lot of twisty roads. It is a great warm-up rally with no traps, just a fun drive. Even though the rally is run during daylight saving time, it will still be dark before we get started, so be sure to bring a small light for the navigator. A watch that has a seconds hand or a digital watch that displays seconds will also be helpful.

The fee is the normal $20, but we have a new promotion this year: The normal entry fee for Friday Nighters ($20) will be waived for teams mentoring first time participants. We are doing this in hopes of encouraging all current rallyists to actively draw new people into our sport.

And, all new teams are automatically entered in the Novice Championship.

Come on out, and bring your friends!
