October 2017 Friday Nighter Results

October 16, 2017 By Kelly Smith Leave a Comment

Wow, what a great night for a rally.  No rain; just enough fog here and there to make the competitors consider it, temps not too cold.  The odo check went from the Park & Ride to the bottom of Duthie Hill Road.  From there, we meandered out to a checkpoint near the old Carnation Farm, then North on 203 and up the Kelly Rd and into Duvall.  From Duvall we went up to the old Honor Farm in Tualco, where the 2nd checkpoint awaited us by Crescent Lake, and then up my favorite High Bridge Road to Broadway, and checkpoint 3 by the all too familiar fertilizer and bark storage area.  A very fun run, parts of which has been used on the last 4 rallies.  (Sorry about the repetition, folks.  We rallymasters don’t talk to each other about where we are planning to go.)  Great fun and the rally was punctuated by good scores.  Congratulations to the winners.

Thanks to the workers from Rainier Auto Sports Club, Mark Nolte, Charles Aggenbach, Richard and Dolores Ranhofer, Marcus Hansen, Marvin Crippen, and last but not least, Eric Horst who did registration, started cars along with Marvin, and helped out at the finish.

Another year is in the books.  We are hoping for another great season in 2018.  Hope to see you then!

October Friday Nighter, 10-13-17

October 7, 2017 By Kelly Smith Leave a Comment

We are a week away from the last Friday Nighter of the Season, the October Friday Nighter.  This month, Rainier Auto Sports Club is putting on the event, fresh from their highly successful Nor’wester rally that drew 37 cars for 3 days of rallying.  The rallymaster is Steve Richards, who has participated in the rally scene for a very long time.  Steve says that the rally is very straight forward, a typical RASC no-trap drive in the woods, or at least as many woods as one can find with paved roads these days.  The rally will last about 2 hours and will end at Pizza Hut, 429 128th St SW, Everett, WA 98204.  Steve has picked some entertaining roads, and we’ll all have a good time.

Since it is the last rally of the year, the SOP and Novice Championships will be decided and trophies awarded.  The top places are up for grabs, so if you are in the running, don’t miss this event.

Registration for this novice oriented event opens at 6:45 PM at the Eastgate Park & Ride Parking lot in Bellevue (14200 SE Eastgate Way). The drivers meeting is at 7:10 and first car out will be 7:31. The entry fee is $20. Don’t forget that we’re running the “bring a new team and your entry is free” special.  Come on out and join us for a good time, and bring your friends!

September 2017 Friday Nighter Results

Puget Sound Rally Club put on the September Friday Nighter, employing Mr. Mike Workman as the rallymaster.  Mike found some fun roads and had some nice traps.

A terrific night for a rally was punctuated by a light, but enthusiastic turnout.  The rally left the Eastgate Park & Ride and wandered out to Issaquah for the end of the odometer check.  From there, it was down part of Issaquah Fall City Road, a brief loop by the Snoqualmie River Road, then down 202 to Ames Lake and over to the Carnation Farm area for the first checkpoint.  From there, we zigzagged up the Valley to checkpoint 2 in the Tualco area.  The last leg ran up the High Bridge Road to Snohomish and the finish.  We had three BMW club cars, but changed them to novice when no other novice competitors attended.  They all got trophies, which is how we like it!  Three points separated first and second Novice; first and 2nd SOP were 10 points apart; 1st and 2nd Masters were one point apart and while the Unlimited cars had a pretty big gap owing to a 20 point penalty trap, first unlimited scored a total of one!  Congratulations to the winners!

Thanks also to the workers.  Rainier Auto Sports Club manned a checkpoint with Mark Nolte, Charles Aggenbach and Jim Breazeale.  From PSRC, Scott Margerum, Kevin Mullins, Jeff DeLong, Kelly Smith, Dave Treen, Vasco DePinna, worked in various capacities along with guests Ryan McLean and Aaron and Annette Nelson, John and Derris Humphrey and ORCA’s Gary Coon.  It takes a village, and our village is getting a little on the small side.  With workers, these events cannot happen.

The last event of the season is the October Friday Nighter, on the 13th.  Rainier Auto Sports is putting that one together.  Their events are usually drivers events, featuring good roads and minimal traps.  Come on out and join us.

September 2017 Friday Nighter

September 4, 2017 By Kelly Smith Leave a Comment

This coming Friday, September 8th, just 7 days ahead of RASC’s Epic 50th Anniversary Nor’wester Rally, PSRC presents the September Friday Nighter.  Rally courses are secret until they are run, and sometimes that means that multiple rallymasters go down some of the same roads.  Mike Workman is the rallymaster for this event and he has designed an excellent course up through the Snoqualmie Valley.  Now, the last three rallies have criss-crossed the same area, so regulars will have seen at least some of the roads in the past few months.  What will make this rally more challenging is that it will be mostly in the dark and possibly in the rain.  The sun will set on Friday just about the time you will end the odometer check transit zone.   Be sure to bring your map light!

We checked out and measured the rally last week and the course is very entertaining.  Prepare to have fun!  The rally ends at Brava Pizza and Pasta, 120 Glen Ave, Snohomish, WA.

Registration for this novice oriented event opens at 6:45 PM at the Eastgate Park & Ride Parking lot in Bellevue (14200 SE Eastgate Way). The drivers meeting is at 7:10 and first car out will be 7:31. The entry fee is $20. The “bring a new team and your entry is free” special continues, so invite some friends and enjoy free entry.

Come on out and join us for a fun night rallying with a few light traps, and bring your friends!
