September 2017 Friday Nighter

September 4, 2017 By Kelly Smith Leave a Comment

This coming Friday, September 8th, just 7 days ahead of RASC’s Epic 50th Anniversary Nor’wester Rally, PSRC presents the September Friday Nighter.  Rally courses are secret until they are run, and sometimes that means that multiple rallymasters go down some of the same roads.  Mike Workman is the rallymaster for this event and he has designed an excellent course up through the Snoqualmie Valley.  Now, the last three rallies have criss-crossed the same area, so regulars will have seen at least some of the roads in the past few months.  What will make this rally more challenging is that it will be mostly in the dark and possibly in the rain.  The sun will set on Friday just about the time you will end the odometer check transit zone.   Be sure to bring your map light!

We checked out and measured the rally last week and the course is very entertaining.  Prepare to have fun!  The rally ends at Brava Pizza and Pasta, 120 Glen Ave, Snohomish, WA.

Registration for this novice oriented event opens at 6:45 PM at the Eastgate Park & Ride Parking lot in Bellevue (14200 SE Eastgate Way). The drivers meeting is at 7:10 and first car out will be 7:31. The entry fee is $20. The “bring a new team and your entry is free” special continues, so invite some friends and enjoy free entry.

Come on out and join us for a fun night rallying with a few light traps, and bring your friends!

August 2017 Friday Nighter Results

August 13, 2017 By Kelly Smith Leave a Comment

Debbie Sjodin did a masterful job of rallymastering this event, which featured 3 notes, all of which were used twice and then cancelled.  The course ran from the Eastgate Park & Ride to the end of the odo check, just off Union Hill Road.  From there it meandered out to Duvall, then back down to Carnation, finally finishing up in Sammamish.  It featured lots of cool roads and most folks had a good time.  Traffic was problematic in a couple of areas for some people, but overall, it was a commendable effort.  Andy LeMay, in his first ever rally, teamed up with Sara Noll to win the Novice Class.  Dave Johnson and Ryan Welsh won the SOP class, in spite of Dave running on “4 hours of sleep”.  PSRC’s Scott Margerum and Mike Workman took First in Masters, with the best unequipped score of 28 and PSRC’s Mike Daily showed why having a computer in the car can help, with a total score of zero.  That also means he did everything right, because if you get a trap wrong in unlimited class, your penalty is usually exactly what the trap is worth.

Thanks to all the workers from ORCA who made this thing happen:  Jack Heppes, Dave and Kathy Sacry, Don Gibson and Ben Thompson, Pat Biggar and Rick Ross, Steve Roberts and of course the rallymaster, Debbie Sjodin.  Without these folks, the rally could not have happened.

Two Friday Nighters to go; come join us next month for a PSRC’s second Friday Nighter of the year.  And be sure to check out the Rainier Website http://www.rainierautosports.com/events/2017/norwester/ as they prepare for their three day event commemorating the 50th year of the first running of the Nor’wester Rally.  They have 39 Entrants so far, and they are entertaining the idea of 50 entrants for the 50th year.

See you next month!

August Friday Nighter, August 11th

August 7, 2017 By Kelly Smith Leave a Comment

This coming Friday, August 11th, ORCA presents the August Friday Nighter.  Debbie Sjodin is the rallymaster, and she has been working with the aid of the ever resourceful Steve Roberts, to design an interesting and entertaining course.  Debbie says it features some classic driving roads in the eastern part of the Rally Valley.  There will be notes, so brush up on those (See section 4.1.2 in the General Instructions).  There will not be phantom cars or roosters.  I’m not sure they have found the rooster’s body after the last time he was out.  (You had to be there…)  Debbie also mentioned that the ability to count to two would be useful.  All in all, it sounds like a fun and challenging event.  The finish is at Mod Pizza,  22833 NE 8th St, Sammamish, WA 98074.

July 2017 Friday Nighter Results

Kathy and Dave Sacry  created this marvelous course.  It started off on a different note, with some dead mileage between the end of the odo check transit zone and the start of the variable part of the rally.  It worked well enough, and gave us an area to wait that had a bathroom available.  A welcome thing for those who needed it.  The course meandered out by the Carnation Farm, then up to Cherry Valley, then by way of Tualco Loop and High Bridge Road to Snohomish where we finished at Brava’s Pizza.  A really fun run, with a minor detour for an off course route control (for all cars except one).  Scores were generally 20 points higher than average due to the route control.

Congratulations to the winners and thanks to ORCA for putting on a fine event.  They’re putting on the next one too.  Come on out, it will be fun as well.
